Every function of distinction requires rules of accepted and standard behavior. Since this is such a prestigious event and a major responsibility for us, the following are guidelines for the program activities. Any State Candidate who chooses not to live up to these expectations and infringes any of these rules during the duration of the program may be dismissed and disqualified.

The Miss Teen of America Program will provide chaperones that will be present for the duration of the program activities. Candidates will respect their supervision in all aspects.

Candidates will not leave the pageant site for any reason without first notifying a chaperone or staff member.

Candidates may leave the premises during free time, during a proper hour, if accompanied by at least two other candidates or a parent or other adult relative.

Candidates will attend all meal and rehearsal functions.

Candidates are not allowed to date during the duration of the pageant.

Candidates will not use alcohol, tobacco, or any illicit drug during the pageant activities. Drugs for medical purposes will be an exception and should be cleared with a chaperone, as should any specific medical requirements.

If interviewed by a member of the media, the candidate will be expected to present herself in a manner which is a credit to her, her community and state, and the Miss Teen of America Program.

Candidates will dress in a manner appropriate for a Statewide Achievement Event. Attire should reflect a healthy and positive teen image at all times. Although jeans and casual wear are appropriate for rehearsal and general pageant week attire, extreme “grubbies” should be left at home.

Candidates may certainly visit one another in rooms other than their own, but they should be properly attired. This includes proper attire after rehearsals have concluded in the evening and last-minute visits before bedtime.

Of prime importance is good sportsmanship. While all candidates are winners by the mere fact that they have qualified for the state program, there can only be one overall titleholder. The making of new friends and sharing in the Miss Teen experience will be a treasured memory for all candidates.
